Top twitterers about the Olympics: One Direction, (sneaker) news, a comedian and Justin Bieber

It might sound a little bit strange but the top ten of most mentioned Twitter profiles with regard to the Olympics, contains three teen idols: Justin Bieber, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik. The final two are members of the British-Irish boy band ‘One Direction‘.

Well, maybe not that strange since teenage girls are very fond of retweeting or replying to their idol’s tweets. To give you an idea: One Direction Niall Horan‘s most recent tweet about what he ate, got over 10k retweets and 7k replies in one hour.

Anyway, back to business!

Who else is in the top ten then?

Another very popular Twitter profile (though only in second place, behind boy band member Niall Horan) is obviously the official profile for the Olympics: @london2012. Two other profiles designated to the Olympics, @Olympics and @UpdateOlympics, are also being mentioned very often.

Completing the top ten: sneaker news, Olympic news and a comedian

NBC made a special website, covering all the Olympic news, and are also sharing all these news updates on their Twitter account. CNN reporter Chris Morrow, Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle and Kicks for Fire (Twitter profile of the sneaker news website) complete the list of most mentioned Twitter accounts with regard to all the Olympic buzz.

Special thanks to the Socialympics Dashboard, for providing us with this quite surprising top ten!
